I like to start where the student is. For my youngest students, we begin with the basics of counting and the music alphabet. For older students and adults, I assess prior knowledge and go from there. i like to have the students help me create up to three goals for the semester or year so that we can have something specific to aim for and measure. For young beginning piano students, I typically start with Alfred's Basic Piano Library for the classical approach or my own Christian Music Piano Library for a Christian or Gospel music approach. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce a solo repertoire appropriate for their age and skill level. For an adult beginner, I try to find out exactly what the student wants to be able to do and then guide my instructions accordingly in order to keep lessons relevant to the end goal. Read More

I myself am a music student on my way to study at University of Alabama for a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have been privately instructing students of all ages for a full three years, starting when I was fifteen. I never turn down an opportunity to perform, and have played in multiple orchestras, symphonic bands, jazz bands, and marching bands.
