Sounds of Mobile was a musical theater based ensemble that traveled across the nation singing, dancing, and teaching. Sofree is a gospel based ensemble compiled of all girls. With Sofree, I toured all over the south east performing gospel and contemporary worship songs. I had the wonderful opportunity to lead Sofree as their musical director. He could play anything by ear and he was very skilled. He did really good for the first few weeks and then he eventually started hitting and missing on Sunday mornings and we would have to sing without a keyboard. One Sunday morning he didn't show up and I said a silent prayer with a promise to God. I said, "God, if you show me how to play the keyboard, I will be faithful and I will show others how to play as well." For my beginning students I like to start with multiple methods such as simple tabs to teach string use, what I like to call as power chord theory with simple power chord knowledge. I do this because you don't have to worry about major, minor, augmented, or diminished when power chords. I can go ahead start basic theory lessons on this. I also have another where I teach open chords and eventually all my beginning students will get all these lessons before I move on to scales and the 7 positions or as they say modes of each scale.
