Overview:

I am a passionate and motivated music educator who loves working with students and cultivating their love for the art of music. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education and currently teach high school choir and theatre, in addition to directing instrumental ensembles across multiple grade levels. My experience spans vocal, instrumental, and piano pedagogy, and I strive to create a learning environment that inspires excellence, creativity, confidence, and joy. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of performing and directing in a wide variety of settings and venues around the world. My background includes work in multiple genres and styles both vocal and instrumental which has shaped a versatile and well-rounded approach to teaching. I am also deeply invested in church-based music leadership, having served as a Worship Pastor and led choirs, bands, and worship teams, enriching my perspective on musical and personal development. Whether on the stage, in the classroom, or in rehearsal, my greatest passion is helping students grow as musicians and discover a lifelong love of music.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began during my college years, when I started giving private lessons and discovered how much I loved helping students grow as musicians. Since then, I’ve consistently taught students of all ages in both private and group settings, guiding them in vocal, instrumental, and piano studies. I’ve worked with elementary beginners all the way through advanced high school performers, directing ensembles and coaching individual musicians in a wide range of musical styles. One of the foundations of my teaching philosophy is helping students build healthy, consistent practice habits. Regular, focused practice not only improves skill; it deepens their passion and confidence. I also believe in exposing students to a blend of traditional and contemporary music, giving them opportunities to explore creativity while developing strong technical fundamentals. Whether a student’s interests lean toward classical repertoire, modern worship, jazz, musical theatre, or band literature, I tailor lessons to keep them engaged, challenged, and excited to learn. Above all, I want students to enjoy music. If they aren’t having fun and feeling encouraged, then I’m not doing my job. I love helping students set goals, celebrate accomplishments, and take pride in their growth whether through performances, creative projects, or simply mastering something they once thought was too difficult. I’m always excited to welcome new students and help them discover their unique musical voice.

METHODS USED

For beginning students, whether instrumentalists or vocalists, I focus first on establishing strong fundamentals. I often use structured, proven method books such as Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements, along with age appropriate warmups, technique builders, and simple ensemble pieces to build confidence and foundational skills. As students progress, I introduce solo and ensemble repertoire that matches their level and prepares them for their first performance opportunities. For intermediate and advanced students, I customize lessons based on their goals, instrument, and musical interests. This may include classical literature, jazz standards, musical theatre selections, worship music, or modern commercial styles. I emphasize musicianship, expressive performance, music theory, and proper technique while keeping learning engaging and enjoyable. When teaching adults, I take a highly personalized approach. I begin by learning what styles, goals, or past experiences motivate them, and I shape instruction around those interests, whether they want to refine existing skills, return to music after many years, or explore something entirely new. No matter the age or skill level, my teaching method is built on clear guidance, steady progress, and making music something students genuinely look forward to each week.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing brings me more joy than seeing a student grow in confidence and develop a genuine love for music. Because every student is unique, I believe it is important that each one progresses at a pace that feels natural and encouraging. I support this by setting clear and achievable goals during each lesson, helping students experience steady progress without feeling overwhelmed. Celebrating accomplishments, both big and small, is a key part of my teaching style. When students recognize their own growth, it fuels their motivation and keeps them excited about learning. I also make it a priority to understand what inspires each student. Whether it is a favorite style, a musical hero, or a personal goal, learning what resonates with them helps me tailor instruction to their needs and interests. Above all, I want every student to feel supported, challenged, and inspired. When students enjoy the process, they develop not only skill but also a lifelong appreciation for music.
