I then attended Housatonic College where the Costanzo brothers, Sonny and Sam, headed the music department. Sonny is a renowned trombonist in the New York City area who has played over the years with Clark Terry’s big band and now leads his own.             One of the highlights into my ventures with jazz was to study under John Mehegan, noted scholar, author and educator. During my years of teaching in East Lansing Michigan my band programs continually earned first and second division ratings at festivals. We took trips to Chicago every other year to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and to do a workshop at Northwestern University and my students received first and second division ratings at Solo and Ensemble both at the district and state levels. I was a judge for solo and ensemble and band festivals. I taught elementary music for twenty plus years in the public school system (band, chorus, and classroom music).
