My experience teaching started as early as being a junior in high school. I was very interested in being drum major, as well as conducting, and a situation came up where I was able to teach a high school band for a month while we were waiting for a full time position to be filled. In college, I took a minor in education specifically focusing on secondary education. I was a mentor for several first year music students, as well as a tutor for Music Theory, History (Baroque - Modern day), Ear Training and piano, as well as having private lesson students. I take the time to get to know the student and which methods would best benefit and keep the spark ignited. For standard piano lessons, Bastien and Faber methods are always a hit with both children and adults. For Saxophone lessons I use the "Standard of Excellence" book that most school bands use. I have also written a lesson book of my own that I use pages from. Since 2009, I worked with a distinguished Professor Mate Bekavac on specialized approaches to the standards of music pedagogy. As a result, I have developed a teaching method, which combines ‘awareness instruction method’, with basic teachings in music. For beginning musicians and children, I find it is best to start with the fundamentals: an introduction to music vocabulary. introducing major scales, common time signatures, and basic rhythms. from there, we'll move on to reading sheet music and performing simple rhythms, melodies, and phrases. One of my go-to resources for this is the standard of excellence book 1.
