I have been living, teaching, and performing music in Austin for the last 8 years. I sing and play guitar with Sara Shansky and the Titanic Dance Band. I grew up in Rhode Island, went to Tufts University for my bachelors degree, and spent a few years on the west coast playing music and falling in love. My husband and I just had our first baby in August of 2012 and I'm sure he will be a music lover too! Read More

I have discovered all beginning guitar methods are essentially the same, so pretty much any of them will work for a beginner. It is how the individual processes the information! I'm an energetic, passionate and motivated instructor strongly committed to the belief that everyone is musical. I teach students of all ages and levels, focusing on repertoire, technique, theory, sight-reading and improvisation. My special "niche" is teaching young children. My students (ages 3-6) embark on a musical adventure with Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse, filled with singing, listening, music appreciation, movement and rhythm activities. Students also participate in drum circles, play boom whackers, experience parachute play and ukulele playing. Read More

My students have won young artist competitions, concerto and talent competitions (including Miss Connecticut), and scholarships to Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory and Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have the honor of being known as one of the best flute teachers in the country (James walker, Principal flutist, Los Angeles Philharmonic; Julius Baker, Principal flutist, New York Philharmonic; and Dr. Philip Swanson, Dean, College of Music, Northern Arizona State University). Graduate studies taught me how to implement "Mastery Learning", which is a method in which I assess constantly, and then offer musical repertoire and technical studies at the peak level of student interest and ability, which is where the brain is most engaged with learning. Simply said, motivation and challenge are my main concerns, and I work at keeping the student challenged, yet also feeling success all at once. Your success is my reward, truly! Read More
