I started doing lessons by helping as an accompanist for local band competitions. Seeing new musicians take the next step in their musical journey is a huge blessing to me, and any chance I get to encourage someone in that I take it. Regular practice is super important to continue and maintain growth. I have a lot of experience in several music genres and enjoy playing all of them. The art form of music is both a cerebral and deepy visceral experience. And thus so I invite students to journey outward and inward to begin (or continue) studying music from both a scholastic perspective as well as treating the art form as a purely aural experience. I have a few different methods depending on a students interests.  A majority of my current students study concert and/or marching percussion with me. With either of these styles, I like to start by developing their sense of timing, reading, and technique. For this, I use a combination of the Mitchell Peters books in addition to packets that I've developed over the past 10 years. My more advanced students work with me on their Solo and Ensemble repertoire in addition to preparing for college, honor band, and drum corps auditions. Read More
