I have been a self-taught, hobby guitar player for over 20 years. I am heavily influenced by Rock, and Blues guitarists, but I am also a fan of Classical Flamenco guitar. I have been teaching beginner guitar and Music Theory for a little over 1 year. I enjoy teaching beginner and intermediate guitar students of all ages. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Guitar Method One. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, including being able to read both staff and tab and have some basic playing technique , I will begin to introduce solo repertoire. I took on my first student my junior year of college, and have taught students on and off since. I've taught guitar, ukulele, violin, and voice, but piano is what most of my students pursue. I do my best to make sure students are enjoying the instrument that they are handling, because if they don't enjoy it, why should they continue? I encourage performing opportunities, such as recitals and church performances, so that a student can become confident in their abilities, and be motivated to explore music beyond what I can teach them! For more advanced students I teach those same methods but will also apply improvisation and song writing to the lessons with my own “4 Steps to Song Writing” method.
