Once students have gotten the basics down, I begin to introduce other types of books such as technique books, scale books, etudes, or even solo repertoire. Poor posture leads to pain and problems, and so I like to encourage healthy habits from the very beginning. I find that students with proper playing habits tend to progress quite quickly, and ultimately have a more gratifying experience with their music. I want students to focus on the technicalities of what they are doing, but relate it to how it relates to performance and musicality.
