For beginner students who are children, I typically start with theSuzuki Book 1 or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements depending on the students wants/needs. Throughout the lessonsI will coverbasictheory such as chords, scales, and other guitar/piano/drums/bass fundamentals neccesary to grow.For adults, I like to do a thorough interview to get a feel for what it is they want out guitar/bass/piano/drum lessons and from that develop a lesson plan based on the lessons i was taught by my music teacher in college. I use many different methods since I am of the opinion that all methods have their strengths and their weaknesses.  For children I typically use the Suzuki method and suplement with exercises and outside repertoire to compensate for the weaknesses in the Suzuki method.  I also use the Royal Conservatory method and try to teach its repertoire when the student is at an advance- beginner or intermediate level.
