I'll begin by asking about your goals and aspirations to design the curriculum around your playing level. As a beginner student, we may start with left right hand coordination and instrument positioning, we'll work on motor skills and get started on developing fun practice habits. As we progress, we'll begin to apply concepts in a musical context by learning progressions to popular songs and analyzing why they work. We'll jam, play off of one another and begin to sing what we play. Read More

I have been teaching musicians of all ages and levels ever since my first year of undergraduate in 2016. I have been contracted every summer since then by Summer Sonatina, a piano camp in Bennington, VT, to teach five to six 45 minute lessons a day. While I do teach at all levels, I tend to gravitate more towards serious intermediate-advanced students. I am a classical pianist, but am able to teach any and all styles involving piano or any other keyboard instruments. Read More

I only want my students to have a positive experience when leaving our lesson. I am constantly letting them know what they've done well, along with what goals we need to work on. I focus on the sandwich method, which is one positive trait, something to work on, then another positive trait. Everyone is different, so their learning pace is different as well. I do expect them to put at least some effort in at home via practicing (although I know things come up sometimes), otherwise it would be hard to find progress when they haven't practiced what we were working on. Beginner Students: Children- I begin with the Faber introductory books which are fun, engaging, and easy to follow. My primary goal in the first year is to instill a sense of play in music while the student developes a regular practice routine. Teens/Adults- We begin with an accelerated curriculum that seamlessly walks the student through the fundamentals of reading notes, understanding theory, and proper technique at an enjoyable pace. I usually start all of my piano students from the Alfred series. Those that are more advanced will complete the curriculum quicker.. Alfred seems to offer a more detailed instruction technique. It offers step by step instructions. The student can almost teach himself. For guitar I use the Everyday guitar method. This method introduces each string at a time. By the end of the book, you will be playing songs on each string. Read More
