I began teaching guitar while in high school, and have had students consistently since 2002. During college I taught private guitar lessons both in Grand Rapids and Ypsilanti Michigan. After graduating I begam teaching guitar, audio engineering, and music business at Grand Rapids Community College. From 2009-2016 I was an instructor for a teen music program myself and other members of The Outer Vibe started called "Rock Camp." For beginners, I will start out teaching them the fret board from one end to the other and basic chords. Once the student is up to speed on chord changing and fretboard knowledge, I will begin teaching them easy songs. With students in their mid-teens and up, I will ask them what their interests are and teach them accordingly to meet their goals. My method of teaching involves researching a wide range of resources in order to find what is best for the student at the current stage in his or her development.  Using my own knowledge, I am able to effectively adapt and improve these resources so as to be accessible to the student.  For bass students, I might use Hal Leonard's Bass Method, book one.  For young beginning guitar students, I recommend The Beginning Guitarist's Book by Tom Hess. I would say I'm a fun teacher. If learning music isn't a fun experience then why do it anyway right? With guitar or singing, I will always teach the music theory behind what we are doing, but to be honest I'm more of a "Feel" guy. Meaning I'm not super technical.
