Currently, I am a member of the Raider's drum and Bugle Corp's (Burlington, NJ) percussion staff. The raiders are an open class DCI group that competes in the summer against other open class groups. My job duties include running rehearsals, providing weekly assignments to members, and providing individualized critique and information for students. After establishing the experience level of the student, I will create an appropriate lesson plan. For less experienced students, I will use my own, introductory written exercises and simple guitar riffs to get started. Upon forming the basic skill needed to learn pieces of music, I will either introduce solo repertoire pieces or songs that the student wish to learn while continuing with my pre-written exercises. For more experienced students, I will use Jazz standards from the Real Book and J.S Bach pieces transcribed for guitar as a way to practice more advanced compositions and sight reading if that is something the student is interested in.
