For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I have had 2 private students for the past year both for voice: -Zoe 15 -Lucas 13 I officially started teaching while I was with The After School All-Stars teaching their school of rock band. I was with them for 3 years and in that time I was able to not only have the students perform as a band but I also taught the students how to be "techies". Not all of them wanted to play instruments but they still wanted to be a part of the group so I said Why Not?" I make sure to put all my effort into adapting to every student. Overall, I set reasonable goals for each student that are challenging, yet attainable.
