For beginning piano students who are children, I usually begin with Alfred's Basic Piano Library or James Bastien. Once the student has grasped a good level of fundamentals, I begin to introduce level appropriate solo repertoire pieces not only of my choosing, but of the students choosing as well. I continued to teach through college, when I also became a member of NAfME and the educational honors society of Kappa Delta Pi. As an undergraduate I studied music education, performed with cello in the orchestra, took composition studies and a world music class, and achieved an A for my senior recital performance on the piano. Graduating from Grove City College with a bachelor of music and a K-12 teachers certification, I have since been employed as a substitute teacher while continueing to provide private music lessons to students of all ages. I have given piano lessons on and off as early as ten years ago when I was first starting my undergraduate studies. Through my time at Mansfield University, I studied piano and developed my skills to an advanced level. My studies in Music Theory and Composition at Binghamton University have also aided in my composing skills. I always want to make sure my students can apply what they learn in my lessons to their participation in their actual choirs. If a student is preparing for a PMEA Choir audition, I will help them prepare the repertoire as well as provide a mock audition. If they sing in a church choir, we will work on sight singing hymns as well as working on any difficult literature. If they simply want to learn more about music theory, I will focus on that.
