Any time I teach, I make sure to plan every lesson so that the student(s) can progress as far as possible every time they are learning with me. With school-age students, I use the Orff Schulwerk approach often, incorporating their own ideas into the lesson and having them learn through various senses (imagery, movement, games, etc.). I find this method helps the student with dependency of string books and helps to harbor curiosity to the vast world of music and methods beyond one book.
