I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students. Therefore, I like to record my students quarterly for a few minutes within a lesson to show the mass amounts of improvement they will accomplish. Read More

I know each student is different in terms of learning style and musical goals. I make it a priority to keep the student's best interest in mind when giving assignments and setting weekly goals for practicing. The most important thing I want to leave the student with is a sense of fascination and appreciation for music. Whether an interest in classical or country music, I can transform any material into a learning opportunity that is fun, educational, and progressive for the student's musical and technical development. I started violin lessons at age 7, after 2 years of begging my mom! I can still remember that blustery Saturday morning in November when I had my first lesson, and since then, I have learned so much. I took a break from teaching while getting my bachelor's degree, but continued while I got my master's. Read More

I am not Suzuki certified but I utilize the early Suzuki violin books for repertoire; that being said, I always take the requests of students into account meaning it is important to me that students are learning music they are excited about learning. For beginners who are new to music as a whole, I employ volumes 1 and 2 of "I Can Read Music" to get students learning both pitch and rhythm in easy, digestible, sections. Read More

I have taught for four years primarily using the Tuttle System and the Suzuki method. I am patient with my students and believe that anyone can become a great violist. I understand that it is difficult in the beginning and progress can be slow, but I encourage my students to keep chugging along. There is nothing more rewarding than accomplishing something as difficult as playing the viola. First and foremost, I prioritize establishing a strong foundation of technical skills. Read More

My studio is in Olympia, and I travel to students' homes in the Seattle area including Bainbridge Island and Bremerton. I am a member of the Musicians' Association of Seattle and the American String Teachers' Association. Music has played a vital, formative role in my life for as long as I can remember. My parents are both excellent musicians. I started piano lessons at the age of 5 and began studying violin when I was nine. Read More
