For brass instrumental students, I generally use the Rubank Method books, focusing on care of the instrument and basic fundamentals. For piano students I use a variety of different method books and am not tied down to any one series. We will also work on scales and the Hannon series For vocal students, I use a series of vocalises, scales and other exercises to strengthen the voice. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. I have always loved and appreciated music however, I did not gain my passion for music until I was shown its power and affect through the teaching of high school music educators. From then I pursued a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from Texas Lutheran University and graduated the Fall of 2016. The child must not be nagged or pushed to practice, this leads to burn out, and or that child may not succeed in the process of learning music. I will teach accordingly to the child's basic interests and desires to learn the instrument. The child will advance if he or she puts effort into the daily lessons of practice which makes the playing better.
