Although I love to perform live, I get the greatest enjoyment from seeing my students progress. Itailor lessons for each individual student, helping them to grow as well-rounded musicians while keeping music-making enjoyable and satisfying. I'm a life-long musician and am extremely interested in passing my knowledge on to others. Currently I am a band director in the Pueblo, Colorado area but have lived all over the United States and played trumpet extensively for over 2 decades. I was trained as a trumpet player at DePaul University, UAB, and most recently at the University of Alabama, and also have experience composing and arranging music. I have gigged in Chicago, IL, and in many states throughout the Southeastern United States. Read More

I was then invited to move back to my college town of Brookings, South Dakota to be their middle school band director. I moved to Sioux Falls and taught in the Catholic School System for a number of years. Then I was fortunate to teach my last 11 years in beautiful southern California where I taught instrumental music at elementary to high school levels. Read More

For beginners, I like to start with the basic fundamentals of the instrument. Brass instruments are notoriously demanding, so making sure we have a solid grasp on the fundamentals is paramount. I like to start with the Essential Elements for Band and the Elementary Method for Cornet and Trumpet books. Once we have the fundamentals, I like to start introducing some solo pieces, jazz, and pop tunes that will allow the student to get a feel for all the music they can play on this instrument! My love of teaching begins years ago from being a beginner student and helping my peers understand their instruments. In high school I was a section leader in marching and concert band for two years, leading sectional rehearsals and helping students one-on-one. Many of my peers started coming to me for costructive criticism and I would help them in a private lessons setting. In college this continued as I was in the studio with other saxophonists and in methods classes with other musicians. Read More

I started playing trumpet in middle school band and enjoyed playing so much I quickly started a group with my brother and friends. Since then I have played more than 2000 shows at venues ranging from the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheater to the intimate El Chapultepec. I attended Metropolitan State University of Denver, while there I started helping out at my old high school and found that I enjoyed teaching trumpet. Read More
