For beginning students, I combine multiple elements to understand the various aspects of their new instruments. With a combination of videos for inspiration, singing for audiation, and moving for connection to the instrument and how our muscles respond to it. My lessons rarely consist of sitting for the entire time. I believe that in the short time we have in lessons, it is more important to expose students to a variety of resources to investigate their new endeavor than it is to repeat repertoire for the sake of a quick result. Students under my tutelage have experience significant musical improvement, as well as the satisfaction which comes from working towards long-term goals and achieving them. I like to make sure that in my lessons students realize that learning an instrument is a marathon and not a sprint. I foster an environment that encourages them to ask questions whenever they are having trouble understanding a concept. I am always trying to find out how best to teach a student by trying to find out how they learn information. Every student needs to be approached differently. I take every student at their pace knowing that students can be burned out if they progress too quickly or become bored if they arent challenged. Modern middle and high schoolers can be very busy and it is not productive to give them too much than they can handle.
