MM, Cleveland Institute of Music, Bass Trombone Performance BM, Cleveland Institute of Music, Bass Trombone Performance
Overview:
I am able to teach trombone and euphonium lessons to anyone and any age from those that have just started playing through those looking to just improve their musicianship. I tailor my methodology to the needs of my students, and I am willing to work with them to try and find the best way for them to learn. I am a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music I was lucky enough to be able to do both my master and my bachelor degrees there, as well as getting the chance to study and collaborate with many musicians from the Cleveland Orchestra.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching shortly after I graduated with my master degree from the Cleveland Institute of music, and I have been teaching consistently since that time. I encourage my students to keep to a regular practice schedule, which is especially helpful for new musicians. while this can sometimes be difficult, I always work with my students to try and find a way to help them to make consistent progress. I try to foster an environment where students are free to ask any questions they may have. I find that when students are able to stay curious about music they tend to be more passionate and work harder to advance.
METHODS USED
I start beginner's on scales and fundamentals, and once they grasp the basics of reading music and the instrument (hopefully in after a couple of lessons) I have them start on The First Book of Practical Studies so that they can begin to learn to play very simple melodies and to reinforce their ability to read music. Once they are ready I begin to introduce them to more melodical and technical etudes as well as solo repertoire that is appropriate for their ability. For my adult students I take a more modified and streamlined approach.
LESSON STYLE
I like to make sure that in my lessons students realize that learning an instrument is a marathon and not a sprint. I foster an environment that encourages them to ask questions whenever they are having trouble understanding a concept. I am always trying to find out how best to teach a student by trying to find out how they learn information. I am always happy to go at the pace the student sets, and I will always make sure that the goals we set week to week and beyond are realistic. That being said, I always try to push my students to achieve more than they ever thought that they were capable of.
