I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. I am well versed in the various styles of music and am comfortable teaching students how to improvise also. Read More
Instruments: Trumpet Trombone
I work with all of the standard brass methods, selecting those that are appropriate for the individual. For example, Rubank, Hal Leonard, Schlossberg, Herbert Clarke, Arbans, Charlier, etc. I believe in teaching technique as much as possible through MUSIC (not just exercises). To this aim, I encourage students to play everything from simple songs and tunes to the "classic" literature such as Haydn, Hummel, and Hindemith - and orchestral etudes (as appropriate). Read More

Learning how to play an instrument, how to read music, and the three Ts can be overwhelming, to say the least! My job is to coach students as they become familiar with the hows and whys of their new or familiar instrument. The most thorough knowledge comes from a self-motivated sense of wonder and drive for exploration. With me as your guide, you can discover all that your instrument and its music has to offer! I prefer to let students advance at their own pace so that they don't feel rushed and get discouraged. For younger students/beginners I keep an open line to the parents for extra support. I bring my instrument to the lesson and demonstrate as I teach. I center on encouragement and emphasizing a student's successes. I will change a lesson book/publisher if I sense that the student is either struggling with a particular book, or is not being challenged in a particular method and is becoming bored. Read More

I directly relate my teaching methods to Dr. Jan Kagrice, the founder of Musician's Wellness of North America; an organization that rehabilitates musicians with conditions that affect their ability to play their instruments. I've continued her teachings of a relaxed, observational form of playing, which basically means that my students learn how to play a brass instrument with the least amount of effort possible with the best sound possible. The method is also very body-oriented, with healthy stretches and focus on a sustainable way to play these instruments. Read More

For piano beginners who are children, Ibegin withthe John W Schaum method. For piano beginners who are adults, Ibegin withthe Beyer book for the piano. This is quickly supplemented with chord studies. For guitar students, we discuss what style(s) of music most interest them, and take it from there. For students who are not beginners, on any instrument, Ican pick up right where they left off. Read More
