With children, I like to start with method books such as Essential Elements or the John Thompson series for piano. For more advanced pupils, I will start with what they are currently working on, find areas for improvement, and then adjust the curriculum accordingly. I graduated high school in 2004 and went on with a full scholarship at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, TX. I played first trumpet part all throughout middle and high school and even in college. Also in college I participated in the Jazz band there throughout my 2 years. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students.
