Hello! I just graduated from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in 2019 with a Bachelors degree in Vocal Performance. I have been in over 60 productions in my life, including concerts, operas, operettas, musical theatre performances, and talent shows. I absolutely love singing and am very excited for the opportunity to start teaching! I have had extensive training in my craft, and have been taking voice lessons for 12 years. The best feeling for me is to see a student develop their own passion for music.  Therefore I do not believe in forcing a student to progress at a certain pace.  That said, I like to develop skill sets to a very strong level before moving forward to new skill sets.  I am a firm believer in acknowledging progress and positive reinforcement.  Above all else, I believe the students goals and interests are truly what guides the lessons.  I may explain and design a path for the student, but it all comes back to the destination that they desire. I have been teaching for 30 years. The exciting thing is that private music lessons provides an opportunity to get to know students on an individual level. This means that each lesson is unique, and each student has lessons tailored to them. Getting to know what makes a student tick or understand is a highlight of my day! Experience has led me to instead encourage my students to listen to recordings of themselves and others after they finish learning their music, so they have a chance to develop their own ideas of the piece first. In New Zealand I learned to play on Hamburg Steinways, instruments that need care to make a full, round sound when playing loud. This helped me to form and teach a technique grounded in efficient use of arm weight versus muscle. Read More

I believe the foundation of progress is consistency, so I try to establish routines with my students, spending part of each lesson on technical exercises, theory/aural skills training, and repertoire. I also set performance goals for students by organizing recitals *this has been more tricky during Covid, but I think it is important nonetheless to get students to perform from memory at least twice a year (once at the end of fall and spring terms).
