She uses scientific understanding of vocal function - talking about proper body alignment, breathing technique, diction, tongue and jaw tension, and the importance of vocal health. Over the past thirteen years, I have taught nearly 400 students - beginning as a junior in high school with four pianists. My teaching experiences have ranged from group lessons with fourth-grade, beginner clarinetists and saxophonists, to starting brand new five-year old pianists, to preparing high schoolers for competitive auditions and performances, to substitute lessons with adults. I actively seek to have my students play for people whenever they can (i.e. church, family gatherings), and I seek out and arrange more formal and organized events such as recitals or visiting the elderly and performing at retirement villages and nursing homes. I am a singer/songwriter who enjoys the process of creating a song from start to finish. I also am a studio singer and love the experience of being in the studio recording my own original music. I graduated in 2009 with a contemporary music degree that provided a well-rounded musical education. My goal as a teacher is to make sure each student feels like they are getting something out of the experience. Knowing what the goals of each student are allows for a tailored approach to each lesson. I like to establish markers to reach by certain times while still being realistic as well.
