I love teaching students privately one on one. My youngest student was 4; a Piano student. She was from a Russian family and didn’t speak a word of English. Teaching her was a joint effort between myself and the girl’s mother who did speak English; a very interesting experience. My oldest student was 86; a Guitar student. He had studied previously with another instructor and loved to play. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. For children, I encourage parents to be a part of the learning process and ask that they regularly come to lessons. Especially for younger students, having the support of the parent will make all the difference in the world. Lessons with me are fun and engaging but also very practical. I have a degree in Music Education, and also a Bachelors Degree in Musicology from University of Arts (Havana, Cuba). My love for education started very early by teaching neighborhood kids, and eventually I became a professor in the subjects of theory and piano at the Nola Saigh Sainz School of Music in Ciego de Avila, Cuba.
