My favorite thing about teaching is getting to know each of my students indiviually and finding out how each of them learn best. I love to teach and to learn how to be the best teacher possible for each student. I am currently pursuing my masters at Baylor University and am a regularly featured memeber of the opera program.
I began teaching beginning piano lessons in High school and have now taught for almost 10 years. I have taught privately in my home state of Wisconsin for many years and for the past two years I have been teaching piano and voice at studios in Chicago and Wisconsin. Through these different studios and teaching environments I have been able to work with many different types of students and my love of teaching has only grown. I love what I do and it is my desire to share that love of music with my students to help enrich their lives.
For beginning flute and piano students I start with method books suplimented by some ear training and theory games taught in lessons. I use different method books depending on the student because each method book does not fit every student. That decision is typically made after the trial lesson. For voice I begin with vocal warm up to train the voice and breath and to give me a good idea of appropriate repertoire for later on. It is always my goal that my students are not only growing as musicians but also having fun.
For children, I encourage parents to be a part of the learning process and ask that they regularly come to lessons. Especially for younger students, having the support of the parent will make all the difference in the world. Lessons with me are fun and engaging but also very practical. I will have assignments for every week and make sure that the students not only have a solid foundation in technique but also theory, basic ear training and music reading.
