I use various methods depending on the age and personality of a student. Methods that I use most are Bastien, Schaum, and Agay. I am able to teach out of nearly any method, and sometimes use a combination of different ones. I focus on technic by doing five finger patterns, scales, chords, and arpeggios, each of which are introduced individually once the student reaches certain abilities. I employ methods from the Peery Piano Academy by Christie Skousen, as well as added techniques I have found to be most helpful. I utilize fun games, flashcards, and a rewards system that encourages my students to stay focused on the task at hand while learning and retaining new information. I keep an organized studio and adjust my teaching to each student according to age, goals, and skill level. They are very well written and are geared for success! For flute- I start with Suzuki and then the sky is the limit! I like playing music theory games with kids.
