At the encouragement of my piano teacher, I started teaching lessons at age 16. I soon realized that I loved helping others learn and enjoy music. I have continued my development as a teacher through workshops and teacher training. The feedback I get from parents and students has helped me to progress as well. I particularly enjoy teaching younger students. The enthusiasm they have for learning and trying new things is contagious. Read More

After teaching for 12 years I don't have a fixed method. I have categories of students, from children who are trying to function in a band setting, to children who are trying to develop a musical or compositional talent. I take particular joy in teaching adults who believe it is too late to achieve levels of technical proficiency that would make them proud. My journey from classical music to jazz through pop, swing, rock, soul and folk has taught me how to blend in with any style, and my classical education has given me the necessary toolbox to communicate about advanced theoretical concepts with students who are interested. Dynamics exercise on the pieces section - take parts and play them from p to ff and down again. Read More

I feel that while it is important that students make progress, every student must move at his or her own pace. I like to set goals for students in terms of technical growth and potential repertoire, and believe in acknowledging the improvements a student makes, whether over time or in the moment. Though it is wonderful to see a student gradually understand a concept, there is nothing more exciting for a teacher than seeing a student have an "Aha!" moment. Read More

More important than vocal and piano technique, it is also important to me that my students have and continue to build a healthy strong self esteem. At times songs are chosen to help students feel more positive about themselves, and having healthy enlightening dialogue in the lyrics encouraging them not to give up, and believe in themselves and to dream the biggest dreams. When a student feels great about who they are, them performing great follows suit. Read More

Like I said, every lesson is specific to the student. I don't use a "method" on all my students. I can teach classical music and technicality, to jazz songs and improvisation, to songwriting and pop/folk oriented style of playing. I try to give accurate and appropriate material to students depending on their needs and interests. Read More

I adapt the method to the student. I usually use Nancy Faber series for the young child. I try to familiarize the student with different types of music so he/she is exposed to many styles and periods of musicand therefore, can choose what he/she prefers. Read More
