Born and raised in Alaska, I have been teaching kids, teens, and adults music and theatre since I was in highschool. I began my training at the University of Alaska Fairbanks with my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, finishing my degree at Western Connecticut State University with a Minor in Theatre Arts in 2013. I went on to study Acting at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated with my Masters of Fine Arts in 2016. Read More

My teaching experience started when I was in high school. A lot of children in my neighborhood wanted to learn violin and piano, I suddenly became the neighborhood teacher at just 17! After college I continued teaching privately. I have also taught in public and privet schools. My main passion in teaching is to help ANYONE who wants the gift of playing an instrument. What a thrill it is to see the smile on my students faces when they get on stage and enjoy playing their solo in a recital, or watching my students play in an orchestra. Read More

I like to be flexible and change up my method depending on each student's needs and goals. Most of the time, I start beginners off with a book such as A Tune A Day, Suzuki Violin School, String Builder, or the Hal Leonard. I also provide other handouts with exercises and additional material. After some time, I like to introduce new etudes and pieces that suit their current level but also provide challenges to help them grow. Read More

I often see that my students are able to find both enjoyment and enlightenment through music. This is accomplished by having a base in traditional style of music education, while also incorporating fun and relatable topics. I also see them develop a sense of confidence because of their ability to understand a subject that they may not have had much familiarity with before. On the performing side, I play those same instruments in a wide range of ensembles. Read More

Every student is different and have different goals, because of this each student gets a Personal Lesson Program. This is made for the benefit of the student and his personal goals. The goal he wants to acheive in his lessons is broken down lesson by lesson so that he is working towards that goal from lesson one. It is done so that each lesson is simple enough for him to acheive the end result f the lesson and progress rapidly. Read More

I usually use the Faber, Beyer, or Czerny depend on the student's level. I'd add Hanon, bach 2,3 part invention, Sonatina album, and the list can go on. For Jazz, all I need is manuscript paper and a Jazz Real Book (I'd hand out some exercise notes). For advanced students, I want them to listen to music a lot. Listening to music is very critical, it is just as important as practicing the instrument. Read More

Music knowledge helps in child development, mentally and emotionally. I love encouraging children to strive for better and better results through the love to music and its beauty. I believe in acknowledging accomplishments right away and pointing out the strengths of any particular moment during practices so that students know in which direction to work on, as well as see the results of their efforts. I also believe that improvements come from better understanding of the material and basics, and vice versa. Read More
