My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons 15 years ago, and have been teaching students at my home and at students' houses. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I emphasize for my students. To truly become an accomplished musician, a student must be motivated to practice daily. I've found that teaching both classical and modern music motivates students to practice and continue to learn. Read More
Instruments: Drums Mallet Percussion Orchestral Percussion Conga Latin Percussion
For beginning students I start all the way at the beginning with the basics of percussion, from the way to hold the sticks and mallets, to how to read music. After the student grasps the fundamentals I introduce solo pieces to build a repertoire so that they may grow their musical knowledge and become a better musician. For adults I like to find out what they are interested in and build my lesson plan around that idea. Read More
Instruments: Piano Drums
I like to see where the student is at level wise and take it from there. Example : if the student has never played before, we will start with how to hold the sticks. If there at level three but haven't touched 16th note triplets and go from there. If there trying to play Rush 2112 but are having trouble with certain parts - we will dissect it and concentrate on problem areas. Read More
Instruments: Voice
I believe teaching in music in an art that requires as much dedication and preparation as performing. When I teach, I dont force a certain technique or method on students, but rather I teach what is best suited for them. On top of that, I always motivate my students with adequate goals. Most importantly, I will make sure my students enjoy music in the process of learning. I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. Read More
Instruments: Guitar Ukulele Acoustic Guitar
My methods vary from student to student. I realize that some people learn in different ways and I do my best to accommodate my students. I'm a very pattern oriented person so if you prefer diagrams and visuals, I can definitely help you learn. I also have many different tricks and techniques to make something so complex seem much more simple. If need be, I will make personal Word documents for my students that I can email to them so my students have material study and work on even outside of the lesson. Read More
