I love teaching because I believe most, if not all, people love music and can learn to love making music. I want it to be fun for them, to keep them interested. I believe that a set of expectations on the student is required to keep them motivated, but I am never upset or disappointed if they don't practice enough. Teaching beginning Clarinet is one of my specialties. Generally speaking, I use the Belwind Band builder and Standard of Excellence method books to teach fundamentals of the Clarinet. I also mix my own teaching style, especially forming an embouchure (how one's lips and teach rest on the mouth piece). When starting with a young beginner student, I typically start with the beginning Suzuki Method books or Essential Elements books. I will also work on school repertoire if applicable. Once they have advanced past the level of the Suzuki books, I will begin to introduce solo works appropriate for their level and desire. When teaching adults of varying abilities, my methods are much more tailored to their wants in terms of style of music, difficulty of the pieces and the speed at which they would like to learn.
