My cello instruction is separated by levels and books. Level 0-1 is in Hal Leonard's Essential Elements books 1 and 2. Level 1-2 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 1, as well as sheet music and books outside of that method book. Level 2-3 is Rick Mooney's Position Pieces Book 2 and sheet music, and 3+ will be Rick Mooney's Thumb Position books. For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I generally start off my beginners with A.C. Peterson's Rubank Elementary Method or Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence. After they develop the basic skills, I will move the student onto Robert Cavally's Melodious and Progressive Studies etude book. From there, I may introduce solo repertoire into the curriculum.
