My approach is focused very much on performance, technicalities, and theory. I believe it is very important for the student to understand how these aspects of playing coincide with each other, and how they are equally essential to music playing. Before giving a student a piece of music to play, I will always play it befoehand and dissect the song into portions that I feel need special attention. I encourage playing with other musicians, and always try to teach the art ofimprovisation, so that the students can learn to play not only by themselves, but with other musicians, using the musicial understanding that it takes to improvise. I attended the same institution as a camper, and it was also owned by the same school in which I received private lessons. I have found that the best method includes positive motivation, which includes both encouragement for what the student is doing successfully, and also pushing the student in areas where they may feel hesitant.
