I'm an experienced and caring instructor who loves to see students empowered in their own creativity and excellence. I received my Bachelor's in Music Education from Ithaca College in 1988. I have recorded and released three projects so far that have received radio play internationally and been on the charts on college public radio. While studying music in college, I always enjoyed helping my classmates with their particular questions regarding accessing their voice, improving their range, playing piano, or how to start learning to play the flute. While still in school, I shadowed and assisted my piano professor with teaching piano and rock band at a public school. I began teaching privately about three years ago. I started teaching in 2012, I took some time off after school and traveled to Shanghai-China. There I taught at Rubato Music, a private music studio. I gave lessons to children and adults, had my first experience introducing the instrument to novice students. I took notes from colleague and learned from more experienced teachers on ways to better explain/demonstrate lesson material. I believe in a warm, supportive and student-centered approach to teaching. I want all of my students to become better musicians, better artists, and better thinkers as a result of their flute studies. For all students, but especially those aged 12 or younger, an open channel of communication between the teacher and parent is very important.  While some children are very independent, it is my experience that many require parental oversight to encourage good practice habits.  Every child is different, and I’m always happy to talk with a student's parent(s) in order to ensure that every student is progressing and enjoying their time learning the flute!
