Ben holds a BM in Music Education (PreK-12 Instrumental) from Longwood University and an MM in Music Education from Virginia Commonwealth University. While he majored in clarinet and performs primarily on bass outside of the concert band world, Ben is a multi-instrumentalist, performing with numerous ensembles on a number of different instruments. I teach flute and violin lessons throughout the Kansas City area and Lawrence, KS. I recently completed my Doctor of Musical Arts in Flute Performance at the University of Kansas where I served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant. For young, beginning students, I usually work from the Hal Leanard's Essential Elements mixed with separate, individualized exercises, usually intended for regular practice warm-ups. For students that have grasped the fundamentals, we will explore solo repertoire and etudes that are not only appropriate for their skill level but also interesting and fun to play. I have been teaching private piano lessons for almost ten years and flute for one. I love being able to work with students of all ages :) I worked for a time as the events coordinator in a nursing home and got to use music as therapy and even teach some of the senior residents! I will start to present solo repetoire suitable for their first recital show when a student has gained an understanding of the basics.
