My teaching experience extends back to my high school days when I would teach students enrolled in our band new instruments. I also taught for three years from 2009 to 2012 in private studio. I encourage students to practice the suggested amount of time that I give to them each day. It is very important for me that students not only take away something from each lesson, but also enjoy coming to lessons. I try to always acknowledge students' improvements and be encouraging. I understanding sometimes lessons can be stressful or not so interesting, so I try different ways to teach and guide my students so the process of learning is enjoyable. I like my students to bring a small notebook, so that they may write their homework down, and any practice assignments.  I expect my students to keep a practice log of how much time they practice per week, in between lessons.  I always insist that setting goals and expectations for them, is very important, as well as keeping track of whether they themselves are staying on task.  I try and incorporate different ways of practicing or playing music, so that even practicing turns into being fun and exciting and doesn't feel like a chore.  Read More

I like to challenge my students to be the best they can be as musicians. For the serious candidates, inspiration is a necessity! On top of lessons they are encouraged to grow by listening to other musicians learning from them. I value the teacher and student relationship. I do not believe in a "one-size fits all" method of teaching. I value working with my students on a personal level to determine what their goals are for lessons, and then make a plan to address those goals to the best of my ability. For beginner students, I always focus on building a solid understanding of music reading, rhythm, fingering of notes, and general musical concepts that may be glossed over in a classroom setting (which is where many students begin their musical education).
