I've had a love for music since I was a child, when my father played classical recordings at home every day. I've played piano and flute since age 10, and the enjoyment of it just keeps increasing! From elementary school through college I performed on flute, including as a soloist, in bands and orchestras; and as an adult I'm continuing that. My approach to learning an instruments is to have the students learn to play by ear first before they can start learning to read music. I find that most students are able to progress quickly because it frees them to focus on the playing the instruments rather than reading notes.
