I am originally from Austin, TX, but moved to Colorado in order to pursue a masters degree in performance and pedagogy at the University of Colorado Boulder. I like for each of my students to move at their own pace, and if it takes you longer to learn something than it does your friends, so what? You both learned it, which is what's important. For beginning flutists, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method so that they can have a basic grasp of the fundamentals. Beyond that, I introduce books according to their musical goals and needs. Some of the books my students have studied out of are the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies edited by Cavally. In addition, I have each student regularly work on solo literature so that they can put their hard work on fundamentals into practice. Read More
