I then was selected to be the flute instructor at a New Horizon's Band Program. In this program, I taught flute choir to retired adults twice each week, and some of them became my private students. Nothing is more rewarding that seeing one of my students develop a love for music. Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting goals that are realistic and acknowledge when a student has reached a particular goal. This helps the student to become more eager to learn, more willing to spent that time each day practicing. Every student requires a unique sale of teaching. For beginning students, I usually start with a full overview of the instrument they have chosen. This includes providing the student with a fingering chart as well as a beginner's book. For intermediate or advanced students, I typically assess their abilities before beginning with any lessons.
