My teaching style is collaborative, I believe in listening to what the student wants to get out of their lessons.  During the initial meeting I always ask the student what are their musical goals.  From there we develop a plan for the student to achieve those goals.  Even though I typically have a plan for each lesson in my mind prior to the lesson, I always ask the student if there is anything specific that has been giving them trouble throughout the week and I make sure that I cover that topic first.  I involve the student in the processing of choosing repertoire as well as I strongly believe that if the student likes the music they are more likely to practice and learn the material.  Read More

I began teaching flute lessons when I was in my undergraduate degree. I had private students from local high schools in Iowa City. I then was selected to be the flute instructor at a New Horizon's Band Program. In this program, I taught flute choir to retired adults twice each week, and some of them became my private students.
