My job is to assess the students abilities and lead them down the appropriate paths to achieving their musical goals. My goal is to cultivate musicianship.  Students are encouraged to develop technical skills as a means of creative and emotional expression.  Sight reading and improvisation are taught simultaneously with music theory and composition. I encourage this by realistically setting specific goals for each student at each lesson, making sure I am as clear as possible to help encourage this in any way. Finally, student interests are very important to me. If a student has a strong desire to learn a song or study a topic, it would be wrong for me to deny them this opportunity. The only exception would be if a student wanted to learn something that was seriously out of their current level. In that case I would find a simpler version for the student, or I would scaffold other songs or exercises to build the necessary skills that are needed to reach that goal. Read More

I am a multi-woodwind instrumentalist specializing in saxophone. My training is in jazz and classical music but I have performed in a variety of different genres such as latin jazz, swing, improvisation, contemporary classical music and baroque music etc. I currently work full time as a quality control musician at DAddario in NY. At this job I play test clarinet and saxophone reeds and mouthpieces for production approval. Learning how to play an instrument requires time, patience and discipline, that's why it's so important for the students to stay motivated, and enjoy the classes and the practices at home.
