My first experience teaching began in 2014 when I began working marching band camps as the flute tech. I was responsible for helping the students learn marching fundamentals and drill for the show, in addition to running music related sectionals with the flute section daily. I started teaching privately in the fall of 2017, teaching middle school and high school students. As an educator, I believe it is important to continue school music instruction into private flute lessons. I like to communicate with a child's school music teacher in the beginning of flute lessons, so that I can keep music terminology consistent for students, as well as reinforce concepts they're already learning (while expanding musically of course!). I like to have students keep a lesson packet where progress is documented, along with a journal--I find that reflecting for five minutes after a practice session (things that went well, things you need help on, questions), are important tools when striving for success. I am a New York City-based flutist, passionate teacher and trail-blazing entrepreneur. In 2014, I graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance and a minor in Entrepreneurship. I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Classical Flute Performance at the Manhattan School of Music under the tutelage of Linda Chesis. I am a native of Detroit, Michigan, and I have won first or second prize in many competitions including the Lima Symphony Young Artist Concerto Competition, the Central Ohio Flute Association Collegiate Division Competition, the MTNA Solo Competition, and the New Albany Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition.
