Ever since a child, I've loved learning, music and sharing my passions! Through grade school I grew into the role of a leader and a musical/visual artist. In 2018 I graduated from Central Washington University with a Bachelors in K-12 Music Education with a minor in Spanish. My years of teaching grade school has reaffirmed my passion for teaching, and drive to be the best teacher I can. I love to start with the Essential Elements music books because those are some the tools that I began with when I was young and starting out. Depending on the student, I may move to other books, exercises, or solos. I am most focused on fundamentals, rudiments, and technique when instructing because those aspects are the building blocks of any great player and being able to incorporate those into different music really makes a difference. I have been playing music in many kinds of bands and ensembles since the early 1980's. In the late 80's and early 90's I was the drummer for the Seattle grunge band, "Violet Grey." After moving to Portland to go to college I played in the Concordia University String Ensemble and a number of rock bands, including, "Apostolic Tackle-Box," "Andy's Dandies," and "the Quick." My teaching experience started with a marching percussion section for a competitive drum and bugle corp located here in the Salem area. After a break in my teaching career, fifteen years ago I resumed teaching both private and classroom lessons. My classroom experience includes a public middle school band class along with thirteen years with a private Christian school.
