Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. My students are encouraged to come together in percussion ensemble performances as well as form bands, rehearse and perform live music. I always welcome new students of all ages. While in grade school, I also took a liking to local music scenes and other musical endeavors outside of the academic environment and began to glean from those influences as well. Upon graduating high school, I was accepted into the University of North Florida to play euphonium. My freshman year I performed with UNF's top Wind Ensemble at Carnegie Hall. My focus shifted to playing piano primarily and I spent the remainder of my tenure there in UNF's reputable jazz program in their top combos and big bands, working with world-renowned clinicians and staff. My methods and practices depend on the goals and level of the student. For a beginner student, I like to start with a mix of genre-based learning and fundamentals. We will go over the most important and common drum beats that correspond to different genres, the most useful fills, and technical aspects such as posture and technique. My teaching style encourages meticulous time keeping and a good feel. The student will learn to count while drumming and also keep real time as in seconds and minutes. The student will learn the importance of the metronome "a mechanical or electrical instrument that makes repeated clicking sounds at an adjustable pace, used for marking rhythm, especially in practicing music."(dictionary.com) The student will learn how to describe time signatures and there application in various drum solo's.
