I was born to play drums... no kidding, as a third generation drummer in my family, I began beating on my dad's kit from the moment that I could hold a pair of sticks. I moved to the Berkshire Mountains of Western Massachusetts in early 2015 and relocated back to Dallas/Ft. Worth in late 2017. For the past several years, I've been blessed with the opportunity to perform across the country and beyond, to facilitate interactive music workshops, to teach private lessons, and to provide original music and sound design for documentaries, films, animations, and more. I believe listening is the key to learning. I listen to my students to discover what techniques are working best for them and which are their weakest then adapt my lessons to their needs. I also try to teach students how to listen to music, hear the empty spaces in songs that really give them their polish, and how to listen for other individual instruments to understand whem to accompany instruments and when to give them their own space. I believe in making teaching fun and tend to try to break larger skills into smaller bite sized pieces that build upon one another. My goal is to allow students to pursue their musical interests while also making sure a solid foundation is being established in terms of the way music actually works (music theory) and what types of motions allow for efficient and safe production of sound (technique). I am full of energy and love learning as much as I can, but I also understand that full and in depth skill requires time and a certain level of patience and consistency. I relay this to students by repetition (specifically of principles), though I keep it fun and exciting by varying the application. Once the principle is fully grasped, we move on.
