I consider myself to be a Swiss Army Musician. I earned my BS in Music Ed from Western Carolina University and my MM in Percussion from Appalachian State University. I love variety more than anything! I love widening my perspective by dipping my toes into as many different styles and instruments as possible. Since graduating with a degree in music from UNC-G, I have been active as a professional musician, including performances with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Piedmont Triad Wind Symphony, the North Carolina Brass Band, the Shirelles, the Sammy Kaye Big Band, Susan Ray, Frank Fontaine, Jim Cole, and numerous rock and jazz groups, churches, and musical theater organizations. I have been teaching oof and on for the last 20 years. I have been playing professionally for the last 27 years. I played in my high school marching band and in the symphonic orchestra. I studied under Tony Casselli and Tom Tehdran. I've been in a variety of bands from dinner/oldies bands to rock. My current studio has two drum sets and a DW practice pad set. For beginners I intent to teach the main guidelines of the instrument such as its properties, history and basic techniques to play properly. Then, I proceed to show them the fundamentals of the instrument such as scales and rhythm exercises to start. My philosophy is that everyone benefits from music instruction, especially percussion. No matter whether one's goal is to be a professional musician, or one simply wants to try something new, almost everyone enjoys the act of music-making! Having said that, every individual is unique, and I work with each person to determine what works best for his or her desires and abilities.
