I have been teaching for 25+ years in schools and privately. The crucial part of my teaching method is an individual approach. We all are different and that makes teaching more fun but it also makes it challenging and at times very difficult. It takes a lot of patience and experience to unlock one's individuality in learning and performing. I do use books at the same time I try to develop student's ears. Read More

I am a very creative musician and singer with an incredible passion for imparting wisdom to upcoming and improving musicians and singers. I've loved music ever since I could hum a tune and snap my fingers, and it has always been my greatest mode of expression. I started college majoring music composition and theory, but left after a year to join the Air Force. While serving, I traveled to many different countries performing and teaching around the world. I studied with my Dad who played for Duke Ellington. I went to city college in NY where I learned much about jazz history. I've played with the Ellington Band and learned much about music. I am very passionate about drums and started teaching about 4years ago and I have helped many students get to where they want to get on their instrument. I have also studied out of Houston Texas where I've worked with musicians like Tweed Smith from the band War. Read More

For teaching children, I approach teaching as to the execution of everyday and fun pieces, so that the child learns by, and in turn I introduce aspects of academic learning necessary to create a solid base. In the same way, with young and adults, I make a work placement of the necessary techniques for a good and fast implementation, from technical learning exercise repetitive and daily ices, as well as the elaboration of a plan that involves their daily chores. I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. It always gets me when a student that is stuck on a part of their music finally understands and performs the passage perfectly. Read More

Began teaching when I was in college. Had a good rapport with all my students. Always tried to teach them something they can use now(like a cool beat or fill), this way they get enthusiastic and stay with it. My wife talked me into teaching again. We were at the recording studio one day but had no bass player, but my friends son was there, so I taught him the basics in 10 minutes and we recorded right after. Read More

I start my beginning students off with learning to read music notation simply from a rudiment sheet and moving into a cd play a long book with basic drum rhythms and song structure. For intermediate to advance students, I typically start with Stick Control for the snare drummer by George Stone. For basic drum set we start with "The Rhythm Book" covering all drum set styles. If the student is interested in a specific genre and style of playing, we tend to travel down that road of goals they have set for themselves. Read More
