After seeing an unforgettable performance by the Blue Man Group, I became inspired to start playing the drums at 10 years old. I participated in every school ensemble possible throughout elementary school, middle school, and high school including jazz band, marching band, pit orchestra, jazz combo, concert band, and a blues/rock band outside of school that regularly performed around southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. Since 2008, I have performed live on over 200 occasions around the mid Atlantic and New England regions.In 2014, I graduated from Berklee College of Music summa cum laude with focuses on Music Business and Drum Set Performance.I currently play drums with Vitamin Sun, a progressive/alternative/indie band located in Boston, and GEPH, a progressive/metal/jazz instrumental trio also located in Boston. I have been teaching music since 2005. I started as an in home music instructor, providing guitar, bass and piano lessons to people of all ages in their homes. As my teaching experience grew, I've added drums and ensemble/group lessons to my repertoire. By doing so the student will be able to imitate, assimilate and finally innovate, which is the goal. Listening to lots of records and copying what the drums are playing is critical! I believe the proper technique is essential in order to be a successful percussionist. We would start by how to hold the stick properly, whether it be matched grip or traditional grip. From there we would move on to how to properly hit the drum and bounce the stick. The first few lessons are usually all about technique and approach and we would mainly stay on one drum or surface, but after that we would move to the drumset or another area that interests the student.
