I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students of all ages and skill levels. I studied at the prestigious Hartt School of Music for two years as a music education major while studying clarinet with Alan R. Kay (Juilliard). I then transferred to New York University where I received my bachelor's degree in music technology. I taught private and group music in Manhattan from 2010-2016 and in Los Angeles since 2017. I began my teaching days informally when I was still a student at Fairport High School. Some family friends wanted to learn how to play saxophone, so I began teaching them. Since I have such limited teaching experience, it is impossible to define my teaching style. I do love the instrument. It enabled me to get into the Air Force Band and legally avoid serving in combat during wartime. It has also been a source of pleasure for decades. I look forward to seeing my joy in playing the instrument reflected in my students. I will encourage my students to strive for excellence by presenting them with achievable goals and affirming their progress. Read More

For students who are learning an instrument for band or marching band, I like to integrate their sheet music or method books into the lesson. I use method books with students who are new to their instrument. These materials are then supplemented with scales, solo repertoire, exercises, and technique work as appropriate for each student's interest and skill level. Lessons also consist of listening to previous assignments/repertoire from prior weeks and then offering feedback, answering any questions a student may have, and giving new assignments for the next lesson.
