Because every student is unique, and learns and grows at at different rate, my approach to every student will be different. An emphasis on regularity and time management is essential to a student who wants to grow, so I assign realistic goals for each lesson. I'm a licensed teacher that enjoys sharing my passion for music. In December 2016, I graduated from Lipscomb University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music Education. Performing as part of Cedar Creek Community Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Orchestra Pit has given me a variety of experiences to inform my teaching. My methodology is somewhat rare, in that I don't have a standardized set of books or resources that I require. I typically focus on fundamentals of musicianship -scales, chords, etc.- as a main focus. as for repertoire, I tend to gravitate to the great American song book/ other Jazz Standards. My teaching style is first and foremost about having fun with music. If the student isn't developing an appreciation for music then how can I expect them to improve. My teaching style directly relates to teaching philosophy, relating to how they can use music in everyday life, and how to engage in music in meaningful ways. Although my collegiate educational background is not primarily in music, I have vast knowledge of music theory, and understand that each student has individual needs. My biggest method that has the most success, no matter the subject of training is "I Do, We Do, You Do". When teaching a new musical concept, it is most important for a student to have an understanding of the principle. I would explain the concept, and give an example by demonstrating the concept (I Do), however many times the student needs me to do so, and they would practice the concept with me (We Do), and once they feel comfortable trying the concept on their own, I would have them demonstrate the concept for me until mastery is achieved (You Do).
