I began church work in 1976 and left my last position in 2010. I also like to assign something that makes the student test their abilities. If the more challenging piece isn't quite there, they work on it again the following week. I always spend the first few lessons getting the student familiar with the basic technique of the instrument, and then quickly move on to duets, improvising, sight reading, solos, etc. that tie in with the current technique studies.
