Each week at the end of their lesson, my students and I will sit down without the cello and discuss everything that they learned and everything that they need to work on for their next lesson. Together, we set small realistic goals and acknowledge accompishments with small rewards in order to nurture and embolden each student. I always encourage students to enter competitions, festivals, and other programs, as setting larger end goals can be the ultimate motivators! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to when I was in high school, when I began teaching beginning students of all instruments 10 years ago. I have been consistently teaching students in their homes, my home, and online for the past 5 years. Ive found that introducing students to as many different styles of music as possible goes a long way in helping students enjoy playing their instrument and listening to recordings of their instrument. I started teaching piano to both children and adults in high school. One of them was 5 years old, the other was 6, and another was 13 years old. I've also taught a 19-year-old for a short period of time. For the two kids who were 5 and 6, they were total beginners at piano and did not know anything about piano so my main focus was to introduce them to this instrument and teach them the basics of music theories, scores, and postures. I became the musician I am today because I was privileged to have many mentors who not only provided me with excellent technical training and numerous rare opportunities, but also with strong motivation and clear emotional guidance. Now I strive to be that kind of mentor and teacher for my students, engaging each one on a personal level, and providing the kind of opportunities for growth that my teachers provided for me. Have fun. Love what you do. If it stops being fun push a little further ahead and see what happens. All it takes is a little ember to start a fire and I am ready to help my students find that fire within themselves. Its not always going to be easy and they will fall and stumble and when that does happen (and it will) I will be there to show them how to pick themselves up. Read More

I began my journey to become a Suzuki teacher in 2021 and can teach levels 1-10 which means I can assist students from the beginner level to the advanced level. The Suzuki method has taught me that talent isn't innate and can be taught - with enough time and effort any student can achieve the level they wish. It is my job and my goal to help the student discover where they want to take their musical journey and help build the skills to get them there. Read More

Currently, Mr. Li teaches string instruments at the Yamaha Music School in Cerritos, California, and maintains his private music studio in Murrieta, California. I also was very active in chamber music performance. I was a founding member of the University Faculty Chamber Music Ensemble, the Oxford Piano Trio, as well as the baroque music trio, Heinekens Circle. As a principal and an assistant principal cellist, I have performed with many different symphonies as a cello soloist. Read More
