Our music lesson students will have the opportunity to take lessons from the comfort of their own home or in one of the teachers studios. Careful attention is placed on each student to ensure a custom lesson plan. The instrument I'm teaching will determine the methods of teaching I use, for example, if I'm teaching saxophone I use Hal Leonards essential elements to teach the fundamentals and after that depending on what style of music or type of player the student wants to be will determine what I teach them. I try to use psychological judo to draw a student into why they need to learn what they think is unimportant. An example of this might be scales, which are boring to some. I'll show them how learning scales is critical to chord theory and construction, as well as improvisation. I like to start where the student is. For my youngest students, we begin with the basics of counting and the music alphabet. For older students and adults, I assess prior knowledge and go from there. i like to have the students help me create up to three goals for the semester or year so that we can have something specific to aim for and measure.
